Acai is a berry, the fruit of a palm tree, which can be found in South America and can grow up to 25m high. The fruit is highly valued and it takes 4 years for the trees to produce their first harvest. As with most rainforest berries, Acai has been known for centuries as a natural healer by indigenous tribes - with tribesmen going as far as calling them a “gift from the gods”! Not only are they tasty but can be used in cocktails, marrows and as part of various mashes for their uplifting effects.
Acai berries will be especially appreciated by those wanting to lose weight as they are believed to help control appetite hormones, increase energy levels and metabolism. Just go easy on the dose as like with any other fruit, it does contain natural sugars. Of course, not a problem when consumed as a supplement!
